Evocaciones para dos guitarras
Three pieces written by the mexican composer for Roberto Limón and Jaime Márquez.
"The guitar-duet Limón-Márquez toured through Europe and the USA during the 1990`s. The two players wanted music with mexican character, so I worked in rhythms and melodies from western Mexico, the so-called 'Bajío' (Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco) into the first piece. The second piece is more nostalgic, emotive, it has the feel of southern Mexico (Oaxaca, Chiapas). The third piece is built on syncopated rhythms, typical of the afrocaribbean music of the mexican tropics, especially the Gulf coast, Veracruz. The name of the work, 'Evocaciones', implies the colour and warmth of these mexican landscapes." (Leonardo Velázquez)
