Blasius studied violin, clarinet and bassoon in Strasbourg, In 1789 he became the leader of the band of the National Guard in Paris, and in 1795 he was appointed professor for wind instruments at the new Conservatoire. One year later he published his „Nouvelle methode de clarinette“. He wrote numerous operas, band music and violin and clarinet concertos.
